InterMedia Outdoors To Buy BassFan.com and Assets of
OutdoorsFan Media
Dynamic News and Competition Websites Added to Leading Outdoors Network
New York, NY (July 11, 2007)—InterMedia Outdoors Holdings, Inc. today announced that it had acquired the assets of OutdoorsFan Media, including BassFan.com, InshoreFan.com, ShotgunFan.com, OutdoorsFanWeather.com, BassFanArmy.com and the BassFan Army grassroots membership program, which includes the BassFan Army Weekend Warrior Championship tournament.
InterMedia Outdoors, Inc. is the leading multimedia company exclusively serving the information and entertainment needs of outdoors enthusiasts, with the largest network of websites dedicated to hunting, shooting and fishing; a portfolio of 17 magazines including powerful brands such as In-Fisherman, Florida Sportsman, Guns & Ammo, Petersen’s Hunting, and Fly Fisherman; 11 market-leading television productions; syndicated radio programming and the largest library of outdoors television programming.
In announcing the purchase, Steve Hoffman, Publisher of In-Fisherman and Director of InterMedia’s Television Operations, said, “BassFan.com and its sister brands have established a powerful voice in the outdoors space with a compelling mix of news, tournament coverage and engaging features. In a short time, these websites have built a loyal user base of hardcore competitive angling fans and industry insiders. The exciting addition of these brands and websites into our portfolio will significantly enhance our ability to serve outdoors enthusiasts and our advertising partners.”
Jay Kumar, founder and CEO of OutdoorsFan Media, added “I'm very excited about the growth potential of the OutdoorsFan Media properties within InterMedia Outdoors. Everyone at InterMedia Outdoors understands the value and potential of what we do, and the importance of web-delivered content in keeping outdoors enthusiasts engaged. With this transaction, we think that our fan-focused model will experience rapidly accelerating growth as we strive to serve the news and entertainment needs of outdoors enthusiasts across the full spectrum of fishing, hunting and shooting.”
While capturing the benefits of cross-marketing within the InterMedia Outdoors family of brands and businesses, BassFan and the other news-oriented websites will maintain a separate and independent editorial staff and perspective. Under the new ownership, OutdoorsFan Media will rapidly expand its coverage of additional fan communities within fishing, hunting and shooting while strengthening its existing product offering. The business will continue to be run by Mr. Kumar and Chief Operating Officer, Scot Laney.
Willy Burkhardt, Executive Vice President in charge of digital media, events and merchandising, added, “InterMedia Outdoors has a powerful editorial presence within the outdoors community and the addition of a web-based, news oriented media platform will further extend the depth and breadth of our connection with outdoors enthusiasts everywhere. The purchase of BassFan and the assets of OutdoorsFan Media represent an important next step in our commitment to becoming the preeminent multimedia company serving the outdoors community across all forms of media.”
InterMedia Outdoors is a portfolio company of InterMedia Partners VII, L.P., a private equity firm focused exclusively on the media industry.
